Is anybody able to help me find out the reason for the cancellation, or is it too late - i.e. do these things need to be found out on the day?
Reason for cancellation will be OPEY, same as the outbound flight from LHR - BA1484 - as per post 1254 . Cancellation reasons are generally readily available to our 'informed sources' for around 5-7 days after the flight.

If rebooked on a flight scheduled to depart more than 1 hour earlier, you're due full compensation i.e. £220.
