Unlikely, as it's obvious that you're trying to skip lag... but YMMV. You can claim that you need to remove items to pass to a relative in KUL, but how credible your story is perceived by the checkin staff depends on how many "couple of hours" you have to your onward DPS flight.
Moral of story... if you wish to skip lag, always travel HBO.
