ANd the answer to your second question, even though irrelevant with my answer to the first, would be that complimentary upgrades don't apply to SDC rules, and its your original cabin rules that apply. You lose your upgrade if you SDC, and have to re-qualify on the new flight if you were in main cabin to start.
Thanks. Yes, it's international (Caribbean). I thought I could SDC just the domestic portion but I guess that's not allowed. I'll continue to hope the earlier flights open for the same # of miles I used for the ticket with the late flight.
