There can clearly be some clever business logic built reasonably quickly at the app and web presentation layers but all of this will need to be driven by real-time data, be that customer data, flight details, operational flight data, booking data and the myriad of fare rules and logic that sometimes even BA people don't understand. Making that available and performant real time will require a whole load of back end work and / or a cache the size of a medium-sized European country.

If they've managed to keep the design and development of all of this underpinning under wraps so they can launch this year then I'll gladly eat my hat (and maybe another small hat as a digestif).
