when it comes to airlines, ticketing, RTW rules for tickets etc, AFAIK, it doesnt. when it comes to calculation, always the most direct path is drawn on a globe. you can check that on webpages like gcmap.com. FWIW: this is also used for calculation of mileage despite the fact that routes to JPN actually dont fly that path.
when it comes to your personal opinion, you might consider it that way.
when it comes to the definition of RTW, which I would consider as "crossed every meridian at least once", you'd been RTW.
