A few notes on EVs with Avis:
  1. If you expand the T&C on this page, you'll see where they note the vehicle must be returned at 70% or a $35 fee will be charged. If you return <10%, the charge a total of $70.
  2. I've never reserved an EV with Avis, but take them often. >75% of the time when I return it, they note it's an EV and automatically note the "fuel" is at full at 8/8, no matter the state of charge. Sometimes, they mark it 6/8 or 7/8. In those situations, it charges <$1 for "fuel", which is comical. At a few locations, they have outright said "if you take an EV, just bring it back with >10% charge and we won't charge you for anything." I love that, as I can keep it for a day or two without worry for fuel/charging.
  3. If you use a Tesla charger (or most public EV chargers), they are typically very high cost (think $0.45-$0.60/kWH). This typically puts the $/mile at or above a decent ICE vehicle. If I know I can charge at my work/hotel on a slow/110v charger, I'll gladly take an EV. Otherwise, I'll think twice about it since it's not a savings. Also, if you use the Tesla charger, Avis charges the Tesla rate, plus an additional 2.3% "admin fee" to send the bill to you. When I've done this, I don't have any invoice generated, just a charge to my card, which is a hassle to submit for expenses.
