Taipei Metro is very convenient and goes most any place you would want to go. It's your first time so do a little research based on your interests: Taipei 101 Observation Deck for a great view, the iconic Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall and Liberty Square or the National Palace Museum to see the countless treasures that accompanied the KMT from the Forbidden City in Beijing and other palaces as they retreated from the mainland. Note also this museum requires metro and a short bus trip.
