Kenya eTA

Since I was connecting at NBO from CPT to BKK/CAN, I did not need a visa for Kenya, initially. In fact, I recall some ground staff waiting for disembarking pax at the arrival gate scanning Yellow Fever cards. I told them that I was connecting and was then directed to the Transfer Desk.

Now, with KQ886 cancelled, I was to fly out 18 hrs later. The agents at the lounge assured me of everything.
Agent: "The Transfer Desk will help you get a hotel voucher."
Me: "What about the visa? I don't have a visa bc I wasn't planning to enter Kenya."
Agent: "They will help you get a visa."
Me: " What about YF card? I do not have it with me, bc I wasn't planning to enter Kenya."
Agent: "It's ok. They will help you resolve it."
Agent: "However, the Transfer Desk closed at 02:00. They will re-open at 05:00. You can stay at the lounge till they're back. Then they will help you with everything."

Later, it was when I actually talked to the staff at the Transfer Desk that I realised "eveeything" was also, hmm, nothing. They ran out of hotel vouchers, "We don't have any rooms." By sorting out visa, they basically pointed me to a website, available for everyone who needed to enter Kenya, aka the website where everyone applies for an eTA. That's the level of assistance I received.

At 05:30, fed up with the "everything" help, I went on to book a room at the Four Points NBO myself, along with an eTA. (Will bill KQ later for that.)

The most surprising thing is that the customs was quite...accomodating. I explained the flight cancellation which led to me having to overnight in Nairobi, the officer stamped me relatively quickly. As KQ staff mentioned, they didn't check my YF card.

In hindsight, I was too principled with the influence of my Granddad Majuki , running around asking staff members, "What about YF Card?" "What about YF Card?" "But I don't have the YF Card with me!"

Four Points Nairobi Airport, to my surprise, showed a calibre of a Marriott/Westin/Grand Hyatt, more or less. Grand lobby design, high-ceiling rooms, on-demand airport transport - much better than the Uber. I was rather impressed. Unfortunately, having arrived at 06:00, I simply slept till 15:00 before a quick meal and making my way back to the airport for the QR flight out.
