Does the airline have to cancel the flight before the overnight benefit kicks in? We have had rolling delays for weather, crew timing out, etc. Were scheduled to leave IAH at 8:10pm and they keep bumping the time. Now projecting 12:45am but even that’s not certain. If they bump again I’d rather just reschedule for tomorrow and get a hotel. But if the CSP benefit isn’t going to apply then I’ll wait it out.
Grey zone. The claims processor doesn't have access to a lot of information. If the delay letter from the airline says "this flight was delayed due to weather, passenger was accommodated on flight XYZ the next day" and you submit original itin and boarding passes from the new flight, I imagine it would get approved. If the delay letter says "passenger chose to change to flight XYZ and flight ABC went out at 12:46am", then probably not.
