12 and 14 are not considered XL, they're just in the system as exit row, I believe. You should be able to run through a dummy booking and it will show you on the seat selection chart which are the XL seats.
You can probably get the flight cheaper creating a free account on the Iberia Express website and booking there, I think they do a discount for registered users.
By the way, if you have oneworld Sapphire or higher status, you can select the exit row seats for free (after making the booking, going back in and doing seat selection once the system has registered your status). OWS status does not allow you to select the XL seats for free, though in this case the exit row would be roomier anyway. OWE would allow you to select any seat, iirc. Status would also entitle you to a checked bag and priority boarding, and fast-track security out of MAD – even on the most basic fare. The only difference, if you have status, is the ability to change the flight.
Thank you! That's great information. If a OWE and OWS are traveling on the same reservation, will the OWS also get the OWE benefit of choosing any seat? And whatever other OWE benefits there are?
Is there any pro or con to making an Iberia reservation on the Iberia website or just on Expedia? (The ticket is not available on the AA website.)
