Sea-icn d1 (a330-900)
The Good
Loved the new suites. I'm not the tallest guy (5'7") but i was actually pretty comfortable the entire way in either upgright or fully laid out position. It didnt feel too narrow like the previous iteration did.
The two FA's who worked the J cabin were very nice and very attentive (WHEN THEY WERE). The food was actually really tasty albeit a bit large. Still, I was pretty satiated after the meal. (Of course, I chose the Korean meal option). But this is pretty much where all that ends as the reset of the flight was pretty meh.
The Not-So-Good
Okay where to begin. It's been a few years since I've used DL for anything international and so I was pretty excited about this trip. I am visiting my best friend who moved to Guam for work. DL to Asia from the West Coast has been super limited since the pando so I'm often forced to go SEA-ICN and then spend the night in ICN and take a KE flight to where-ever I need to go the next day. This was no exception. Also, I had to book the ICN-GUM-ICN portion separately on KE.com because if I tried to purchase the entire itinerary through DL--it was a whopping $19,000!!. (All in all, the cash price for both flights together was just over 5500). I am not sure why I continue to run into issues purchasing through-route tickets directly with DL that involve a KE connection and an overnight stay. I really wish someone would look into this. Also, why can't I buy a KE flight through DL.com? They are supposed to be partners so...??
The Flight Itself 5/10
K, so I was waxing pretty poetic about the first meal but where was the REST of our food?
So...a 12 hour flight has one actual meal service and then hours of just..nothing? Oh and then I'm served "Breakfast" ...(which literally made no sense given the time of day it was) an hour before landing. I get asked what I want, i tell them, then they bring the wrong item and tell me they "ran out" of the other selection (I'm in 4J...they shouldn't have run out of anything yet..). This had also just happened on a previous domestic long-ish flight (ATL-SEA)
The amenity kit is some flea-market quality crap they market as "indigenous" and it has literally NOTHING in it but an eye mask and the TINIEST bottle of lotion I've ever seen. I remember previous J flights with Delta having decent size pounches/containers with lots of goodies in them. Not sure ... happened here. No pen to fill out my customs form, no socks, no toothpaste/mouthwash. The slippers were hidden between my seat cushions (along with the remains of the previous passenger's food......??)
A surly purser forces me to close my window shade so everyone can "sleep" when the flight took off from Seattle at noon and we'd arrive in Seoul in the early evening? (No, sir, I didnt want to lower my shade---literally F right off). This "go to sleep" BS seems to be an excuse for them to get the food out RIGHT AWAY and then disappear for the entire rest of the flight. I'm sorry, but how is this worth the price? 12 hours = at least 3 meals, not the 1.5 we got. And honestly, the first meal served was more or less dinner, and I would have liked this later on (3-4 hours in) with something lighter for lunch. I also expected (like other BUSINESS CLASS service I've had on other airlines) that I can have something at any time if I want it (like a thing of ramen, or hell, a cold sandwich if I get hungry in the other 8 hours of this flight..???). A random FA shows up with a snack basket that came from coach. Nothing good in it and certainly no actual food. I asked her if there was ANYTHING more substantial and she said I had to wait til closer to landing. Again, this is a 12-hour flight in the middle of the day with an early evening landing. I had no intention of sleeping through it and I'm not sure why they were pushing people to do that UNLESS the point was to not have to provide any other service.
Last November, I flew to Singapore from Seattle on SQ. The suite was much more spacious, the service much more attentive and there were a buffet/spread out in the front of the J cabin where I could go up on my own and grab a snack for when I got hungry; which surprise--I do when we're flying for more than 4 hours.
I'm not sure I want to use DL for another int'l flight. I was disappointed.
Is this what D1 looks like now post-pando? If so, should I just stick to D for domestic and then fly literally everyone else for international?
