I also don't have experience of that row, but I do know that it reclines fully - there are only a few exceptions on BA and none on a 789. And yes there is quite a gap between J and the fuselage, which means you can't lean into the fuselage for sleep purposes but it helps if you want a small bag next to you during the flight.
