I did not remember seeing anything regarding sandbar or the resort is actually a big sandbar :-) Kayak can be used for 1hr each day for free and there is limit on how far you can go around the island. We got bored after 1hr of just kayaking in front of the main beach. You don't need to participate in hotel excursion for snorkeling. In fact, very good snorkeling sets (mask/fins/snorkel) can be checked out for free for the entire stay at their Dive Center. House reef is pretty far out and I did not see much or I missed it altogether. However, there are plenty of good snorkeling spots that are easy to get to. I am sure you can get to better spots with a guided excursion. Put below coordinate into Google Map (satellite layer) for a great snorkeling spot (reachable from the smaller beach)
