In April I stayed at DoubleTree Kyoto Station for a couple of nights at the end of a month-long trip to Japan. I’m glad I stayed at DT Kyoto Station instead of Hilton Osaka as originally planned since I was consolidating my baggage after travelling around Japan including a week-long hike in Kii Peninsula. Apart from some last-minute sightseeing (weather was not brilliant) I wanted to do some clothes and food shopping and the location was ideal with an Aeon Mall less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
It is particularly convenient for the Shinkansen and the Karasuma Subway Line station is not very far.
I only booked DT Kyoto Station 10 days in advance when the cheapest one-bed room available was a King Premium Room. A few days before arrival I noticed on the app I had been upgraded to a King Executive Room, but I also found a King Premium Room was available for booking a few thousand yen cheaper so I cancelled and re-booked. I was not upgraded again but the only difference between King Premium and King Executive Rooms appears to be a coffee maker and the colour/pattern of the carpet, plus access to the Executive Lounge which as a Diamond I already had anyway.
My room on the 6th floor had a view of Kyoto Station and was right above the construction site for a new Courtyard by Marriott next door. However my stay was at a weekend and no work was going on. I liked the design of the hotel which seemed much more up-scale than other DTs in Japan and elsewhere. I hope some of the photos will explain why. For a city centre hotel public areas are very spacious and nicely decorated.
I would like to try the new Hilton when it opens but DT Kyoto Station will be my Hilton property of choice for now. (I have stayed at the HGI a few times but not the DT Higashiyama.) The price is higher than DT Higashiyama or HGI Karasuma but it’s hard to beat the location.
Unlike in other hotels in Japan where I stayed the lounge was quiet although it was weekend. Lounge food was varied and plentiful as already described by TBS. In addition to what TBS already listed I spotted Peroni and Japanese sake in the fridge. I loved matcha-flavoured popcorns and looked for some in shops but didn’t find any.
I had some problem with my digital key and a staff member admitted there was some network problem and assured me I would receive 500 points for using a digital key. I noticed 500 points were added manually a few days after the stay points posted, including 1,000 points (x2) bonus for staying at a new hotel.

Entrance lobby. Three more elevators on the opposite side. Six elevators for a hotel with 266 rooms seem very generous.

Looking towards the lobby bar, White flowers on the right are there to celebrate the opening of the hotel. Most of them were from other Hilton hotels in Japan.
