Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? We booked the cheapest entry level twin and were upgraded two categories to a twin premium on the 12th floor, the highest category of twin room and a two level upgrade. This room was bigger and almost 50% more expensive than the one we booked. View was over the zoo.

How are the rooms? Large - living room side with sofabed, pouffe, coffee table and desk/chair. Bedroom side with two comfortable beds, adequate pillows! plus a safe underneath one of the bedside cabinets. The two distinct areas were separated by an island which housed the minibar and coffee station with storage area below. Long bathroom with dressing area and wardrobes, bath with separate shower and separate cubicle containing the lav and a bidet. Fluffy robes and average slippers. This was our first return since the refurbishment and whilst most aspects of the room seemed well planned and thought out, there were a couple of areas that could be improved. First of all, the TV neither faces the sofa nor the beds. There is no swivel base so it has to be dragged to face the direction you need. We are leisure travellers and weren’t there to watch telly so this didn’t affect us. The coffee station is on the island in the centre of the room, separating the beds from the living area. The Nespresso machine is plugged in but for those wanting a cuppa in the morning, the kettle has to be plugged in elsewhere. The bathroom amenities are fixed to the wall. There is nothing next to the bath. I filled a water tumbler with body wash from the shower to use in the bath. There was a bar of Byredo soap at the basin, perhaps this is for bath use?

How is the exec. lounge? Attentive service, addressed by name and with long hours for breakfast inc. eggs to order menu (6.30 -11) and happy hour (5-8). Champagne still served, Haton whilst we were there. Canapés were plentiful. Enough for dinner unless you are particularly greedy or need the calories of Tyson Fury.

What was good and what was bad? Good - nice upgrade. I told the chap from housekeeping who serviced our room that we liked lots of water and the second day we received three big bottles. The pool and spa were very under-utilised during our stay. My boy forgot his toothbrush and when I mentioned this we received all manner of extra amenities. Really easy journey from the airport to Zoologischer Garten on the RE8 line. It cost £3.70 and took less than 40 minutes.
Bad - AMB welcome gift has slimmed down. Last stay we visited for Xmas and received more chocolate in our suite than you could shake a stick at. Nothing in the room this time. We were given some chocolates at check out. I chose a drinks voucher for our welcome amenity. Used in Marlene. I was told it was for one Rewards member drink only despite travelling with my son. I asked for a cocktail at €15 and was told it only applied to wine or beer so chose a glass of premium wine at €18. It was served with popcorn, pretzels and three assorted cones of homous, pesto and fruit which we left. What a waste, would rather have had a Diet Coke for my son. We went to the lounge instead.

Would have preferred a Diet Coke……

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return? Our room rate was well under £200 per night which we thought was good value for the Whitsuntide holidays.
