What's the point anymore with AA? I mean truly? I buy F or J, fly internationally. Upgrades are a fools game if you have the cash to buy the ticket. In flight service is average. I feel like I get treated better on DL flying in Y than I do usually in J or F on AA. The AA corporate ethos is seemingly that service, soft and hard product don't matter (food, seat, etc), just the ability to sell super basic economy to get to Florida on holiday. After coming up on 3 decades as EXP and CK I think free agency, just buy the ticket, accumulate the miles where you can, use your Amex to gain Amex points is the way to go. I will still be EXP (for whatever that's worth....) on purely credit card spend and buying flights here or there. But having experienced more cancellations in the last three years than in the last three decades, and a devaluation in Aadvantage, CK, etc, I simply don't think CK has any value. Or EXP. I have a stack of former aircraft skin bag tags. yeah, cool, but so what. Having Delta reach out after 2 flights in J, one in Y this year to tell me how very much they appreciate my business and hope to see me more (an actual phone call), I think free agency is the way to go. I really hope and wish AA pays attention. They were between 20% and 50% less profitable than DL and UAL on higher top line volume last quarter. Isn't that a clear indication something is off? I hope the AA Board and their shareholders are paying attention. I have been super loyal to AA for decades (7MM+ lifetime AA miles), but businesses change over time, and not always for the best. Look at Boeing. I really hope AA get their act together and start valuing their customers once again, specifically their highest value, buying high fare ticket business travelers. Oh well. Free agency it is.
