Always refuse paying this this sort of charge unless you got amazing service from everyone (very rare).
If one particular member of staff impresses you, just tip them privately and directly in cash.
At least you'll be sure that the funds go to who deserves it.
they’re still doing it - I wasn’t asked at checkin or at checkout, but when my bill was emailed, there it was. So they’re refunding and reissuing.
id be ok if at least they’d ask so I had the opportunity to decline, but they just point to the fact that it’s mentioned on the reservation…. Not particularly helpful.
other Marriotts in London don’t seem to do this yet….
