We drove the Amalfi coast last April and it was crowded even then. It's not just cars and busses but crazy motorcycles darting in and out of traffic. We were glad to have the car..an SUV as well. but our designated family driver is excellent and she did all the driving. The ZTL do make parking difficult. We got a parkingticket in Ravello and although it took a year the Italians and rental car company found us. It's a 100 euro fine. Since we use the rental car company we will pay. It was good to have the car for Pompeii and I would highly recommend Herculaneum as well. You can do both in a day. Obviously ferry to Capri. Beautiful place but infrastructure doesn't support the influx of tourists in season.
