A big thanks to HadesNL and everyone else who's shared such great info in this thread. To pick just one example, HadesNL's guidance on what side of the hotel to try to get a room on is much appreciated.

Even given the downsides of the hotel, I'm thinking of staying there with my wife and perhaps a few friends for a week this September, due to the location and other upsides. Right now I have a room reserved on points.

A few questions:

1. Any recent reviews from this year?
2. I read that there's a change in ownership, which in turn means refurbishment planned. Any reports of construction noise or when it might start?
3. Any sense of whether buying Ambassador status with the stay in mind is worthwhile?
4. More specifically, how much better a room would the Ambassador upgrade get us?
5. Since folks here seem to know Montreal well, any advice on a fairly nearby hotel in Old Montreal for friends to stay in if they don't want to stay at the Intercon or if my wife and I change our minds about staying there?

Thanks for any help.
