Is it still possible to enter lounges by flashing a cold card from one FFP, and the dragons open the gate manually, while the number on the boarding card is from another FFP where you don't have gold status? That would be one case where billing the FFP would be virtually impossible.
If they open the gates without properly registering a means of access, that would indeed be rendering the billing impossible. Neither operating carrier nor frequent flyer program would want to foot bill, and the lounge owner would be stuck with it. Which is probably why contracts lounges are extreme sticklers for getting the notes on who has to pay,
