I had purchased a P fare roundtrip LAX-HND for May 22-June 1 for $4,642.60 which I thought was a good price. After I selected my meal 5 days prior to travel, I decided to check LAX-TYO on the same days and found PZ3 on the outbound to HND. I canceled the ticket and used $2,600 of this FFC to get an R fare LAX-HND and NRT-LAX, creating a $2,042.60 FFC on the same flight and applying PlusPoints on the outbound. I even had my originally selected seat, 1A. I was willing to take my chances on the inbound as moving R -> J is not worth $2,000+ to me. I got lucky.
