I'm guessing that in hundreds of stays you've received above and beyond what was required and probably even what was offered to other guests. Many (maybe most?) properties define adult somewhere between the tween and early teen ages. I'm not begrudging you the benefits your kids have received or suggesting you should feel bad. Just letting you know to feel lucky cause plenty of others who have inquired are told no. So it was an ignorant bliss for you and your kids.
