So funny this is coming up now. Just this morning, I was reminiscing with husband what a fun trip we had to Bariloche area and how I want to go back to Patagonia again. There's just something special about Argentina, especially Patagonia.
Llao Llao is stunning. You can see why it is one of the top hotels in Argentina despite its remote location. However, it does feel busy. When I went 1.5 year ago, I saw many tourists counting stacks of US dollar bills at the counter. The service and ambience were not "ruined" by the loud tourists but it did take a little bit of the magic away. Overall, it felt like a mix between a place to see and be seen and a business hotel in the middle of a very scenic part of Argentina. I think many dignitaries stay there, probably still do. And for sure the facilities and service available are way more comprehensive than Arelauquen. It's the kind of resort where you stay on site.
Arelauquen, on the other hand, is a lot more quiet and serene. When I was there we had only seen a few other parties, mostly Americans. Our room was on the first floor and opens up to the golf course. We saw more tero birds and bunnies than people. My husband and I are approaching middle age (lol) so we prefer the quiet. It just depends on what you are looking for.
Some things that may be of interest to you regarding Llao Llao as an FHR guest:
The FHR amenity was a free round of golf. You are supposed to pre-book it. By the time we wanted to inquire about the tee times available after check-in, the concierge was already gone for the day. We were just staying for one night, so we didn't check in with the concierge next day (morning of check-out). We did walk around and took so many pictures of the property on check-out morning. Again, stunning.
We got late check-out due to being an FHR guest, I do not remember the time now.
The steak dinner at Llao Llao was quite substantial. Everyone dressed appropriately for dinner. I made my husband wear his nicest slacks and shirt (that he had in luggage) for dinner.
Yes, the room was quite small. I think we already got an upgrade as we booked the cheapest rate which was supposed to be a queen sized bed. We got a room with king sized bed IIRC.
Breakfast was complimentary due to FHR rate. It was quite a substantial feast. Don't be like us and get there early!
No matter what you pick, I wish you a good time.
