They refused to shortcheck (computer says no) until a supervisor came in and only after reading the rules you quoted off my phone, he relented.
As the more detailed wiki covers, there are some international airports (including BRU) where the max time is longer (and overnight is not a factor). Did not mention that this time as it was an domestic airport.
