I like Renaissance Zhong Shan Park. It is a very old hotel with outdated facilities. However the location is unbeatable. It is above a subway line, and a block away from the light rail. Below the hotel is a shopping center with a food court. Yuyuan Rd is a few blocks away where you will find the best modern and fun restaurants and coffee shops for all ages. Zhong Shan park also has an amusing park for young kids.
In addition to the old facilities, breakfast is below average. But you are in Shanghai, there are so many better street foods than any hotel breakfasts.

Outside of Marriott, I'm tempted by the new Sofitel North Bund (ex Greenland Jiulong Hotel). No reviews online yet, but room with access to Club Millesime are in this price range.
