It was supposed to switch to Hampton Inn and Suites within a couple of months. But that renovation proceeded at about the speed of a great turtle, I think it only reopened its doors a year and a half later.
Since I was in St. Ignace for the aforementioned gathering I drove by the site... While there is absolutely no branding I could see (I kind of expected at least a "Hampton Inn, Coming Soon..." sign by the road, but from the exterior at least it's looking pretty complete; definitely still work to be done but an 8/31 opening doesn't seem overly optimistic but I also wouldn't be surprised if that slid unless the GC is really on top of things.
On one hand I'm surprised that there's not a construction fence or anything... on the other, this is St. Ignace where I'm pretty sure some of the homes don't have locks on the doors, let alone locks that get used. (If only more of the world could be that trusting...). The photo below was taken from across State Street/US 2/I-75 Business in the hospital parking lot, which I suspect will account for much of the off-season business.
