If it was booked by an agent then it was likely cross-referenced with the main PNR and it’s quite possible that check-in with an agent (not even a kiosk) will be required (that was my experience in this situation.)
If it was just booked online then there’s no reason OLCI shouldn’t work for both PNRs, but frankly it’s probably worth having the reservations linked in case of irrops or other issues.
If decide to book after, it should be rebooked as a 2 passenger PNR. (Agent can rebook at same price as original, you don't need to pay new higher price, if it is higher now) If price is same or lower, of course simply cancel original booking and rebook as 2 passenger PNR. If higher, call in and agent can rebook correctly and keep original price.
Also, booking as a separate PNR opens up issues for IRROPS and seating issues (not being next to each other).
