A couple of years ago, I took the SFO-HND red-eye in C, and I have to say it was my most memorably bad experience flying NH. SFO departure was after 1 am and everything in the terminal closed around 10 pm, including all of the lounges and almost all of the restrooms (there seemed to be only one set of restrooms open). Everyone was left twiddling their thumbs in the gate area. Of course, minimal food after takeoff. There was a wired 5-year-old boy a row or two away from me (again, in C) who was shouting at his parents practically all the way to Tokyo. And then, just to mess up everyone's internal clock even more, they turned on all the lights and did a full meal service about 3 hours before landing, at like 1 am Tokyo time. Talk about not maximizing rest and productivity.
