I'll be travelling only with a carryon, so no worries about checked bags. Any thoughts on whether it is reasonably safe to think I'll make it, or if this is just an unnecessary way to get stuck in chicago for an extra day? thanks!
I personally wouldn't do it, but your risk tolerance will be different to mine. Of all the flights though, the first flight is the safest one, and the mainline gates are never more than 10 minutes apart from each other. The flights are frequently full (except the day flight, hence the good deal), so your chances of getting stuck in a middle seat if you misconnect are high. Note as you're originating in the US, 261 protections don't apply, so make sure you book with travel insurance so you aren't paying an extra night for a hotel (or you'll otherwise be able to check in first thing in the morning if you misconnect, which may be worth it).
