Strategically paying for seats when traveling with kids

We are 3 adults and 3 kids (all 8 and under) travel premium economy on Lufthansa. Was a little surprised to see that they charge $72 per seat which is even more than BA.

What I was thinking was that we pay for 3 aisle seats for the kids to one side of the plane (i.e. not the middle section) and leave the window seat empty. I assume LH would have to put us adults there no? I'd prefer not to chance it and book nothing, but on the other hand paying for 6 seats seems like a bad deal. Seat map with availability attached. Any better suggestions? Thanks for your help FTers.
