I always ask a representative at JAL lounge whether there are any seats available to block next to me before going to the gate. If a seat next to you is empty, it's more comfortable to travel, I believe.
I prefer to using JL703/704 in terms of type of aircraft 747-400 with shell-flat seat and VOD but JALways hires many foreign flight attendants, in your case, of Thailand, they averagely work better than Japanese.
