My wife and I went to Enowa Yufuin for a couple of nights. Was a great stay with fantastic French cuisine with a focus on vegetables both from the farm at Enowa and from Oita prefecture. My wife's meals were fully vegetarian where I asked to avoid pork and bananas, and each course was delicious. We live near Nagoya with a vacation home in Karuizawa. My wife struggles a lot with many restaurants in Japan both not serving vegetarian food and also with serving food cooked with bonito broth being labelled vegetarian, and considers Chef Tashi Gyamtso as having served the best food she has tasted. I wouldn't go so far as that, but definitely on par with the very best French restaurants in Tokyo. And most of all, the staff both provided superb service and had a kind relaxed demeanor.
