Girlfriend was flying MAD-JFK-DFW-BTR yesterday. MAD-JFK arrived early. JFK-DFW was delayed 2 hours due to weather and arrived 3 hours late, causing her to miss her original DFW-BTR. She was rebooked onto the 10:30pm DFW-BTR which was also delayed, so she arrived to BTR 5.5 hours later than initially scheduled. I'm not particularly well-versed in EC261 regulations, so wanted to reach out here and ask if she would be entitled to any compensation given that the trip originated in Spain.
She might be, if the AA delay had resulted from something within AA's control. Weather is not.
