Now it is just a regular economy seat, 3 across towards the front of the plane with priority boarding. I called asking what is the process and the cost to secure an extra seat on the short intra-Europe segment of the flight, and I was told that was not possible that I would need to buy an extra seat for all portions of the flight including the trans-Atlantic portion. That doesn't make sense to me. My business class seat on the long haul flight would be a single window seat. Why would I buy a second lie-flat seat that is not even connected to my first seat? The SAS customer service agent was pretty rude and unhelpful and just wanted to get me off the phone. Anyone have to get an extra seat and know how it is done and did you have to buy a second lie flat seat that you didn't even use just so you could have a second seat on the short segment flight?
Sorry they were so rude to you. Sometimes the best thing with them is to HUCA.

As you said, for the ORD-CPH you only need a single seat for SAS Business.
.
For CPH-SPU there is ionly SAS Plus and SAS doesn't block the middle seat by default . Los of digital ink here about what SAS Plus actually is, but basically it's premium economy lite. If you have EBG status or higher they do try and block the seat next to you, but it isn't guaranteed. If you want assurance that rhe seat will be free, then buy it as you were trying to do.

The issue was likely that the agent was just lazy amd didn't want to do the work of setting up an extra seat for only one segment of your trip. Just call back and try again and don't hesitate to ask for a supervisor if needed. You are trying to look after your own comfort and be considerate towards other passengers. Sorry they are treating you poorly for that.
