I think as long as you're not staying during an actual major convention where the hotel is booked, it shouldn't be a problem.
How about checking out the Sunday after the 4th of July? I would presume there is no conference happening that weekend!

Well if it gets parked there overnight then definitely no in & out, the idea would be to dump, and then just walk to everything nearby (restos, shops, bars).
I've only checked in once using the Bonvoy app having lower status, if I were to receive a room upgrade (subject to availability) as Platinum would the app tell me that I got upgraded when checking in through it or is that mainly given to those who check-in with a human at a hotel? Sorry for the novice question but might as well ask it here, unless someone wants to move that specific question to another thread!
