Welcome to FT. This question is best asked in the forum of the program whose Avios you have (British Airways, Iberia, Qatar, Finnair?). The change/"upgrade" rules vary depending on the program you're redeeming through. Once you mention which program you have Avios in, the mods will be happy to move the question to the respective forum, where more seasoned experts in that program can chime in.
