Slightly different - but I booked a couple of Skymiles award flights last week from ATL to YYC with no issues.

One with a connection in SEA (DL to SEA and WestJet to YYC), and one with a connection in LAX (DL to LAX and WestJet to YYC).
Seattle connection was 1 passenger, LAX connection was 2 passengers. Each ticket was 25K Miles
