My current booking with points covered the entire stay except about $40 which is just under the 40E for another 2000 points. I'm going to do an onsite charge to bump me up as I don't want to pay cash, so I won't find the answer later unfortunately if the stated points actually post.

My cash portion is 191RM and tax is 12RM (This island is a tax/duty free island!) so thats 178rm = $37 = 35E. As Silver I get 31rewards pts/10E * 3.7= 109. Same for 25 status * 3.7 = 88.

The confirmation screenshot below says I will get 109 rewards points and 88 status points.

So in theory you could book some refundable rates and see what rewards points you might net in the confirmation but as mentioned above (and i subtracted tax from my calculations above), they must take the non-tax portion first and the tax last, so you'll likely rarely get any earnings if you pay more than 80-90% in points. This hotel is just an outlier with the low tax rate of 3RM/night tourist tax and no VAT.
