I have booked a flight from SFO to ZRH via YYZ using 63K LifeMiles:

- SFO to YYZ on Air Canada: Departure 06:30, Arrival 14:37
- YYZ to ZRH on Swiss Air: Departure 16:25, Arrival 06:30

The layover in YYZ is 2 hours, but there is another Swiss Air flight at 8 PM. I might need to leave the airport in YYZ for some personal matters. In the past, I have missed flights and been accommodated on the next available flight.

Can anyone share their experience with Swiss Air ground staff at YYZ regarding this situation? Specifically, what is the likelihood that Swiss Air will accommodate me on the later flight if I miss my scheduled connection? Does the fact that I am traveling on two different airlines complicate matters? I assume they would have an incentive to get me to ZRH since my checked bag will be heading there. LifeMiles customer service has informed me that my ticket is not changeable, and I would not receive any points back if I miss the connection.
