As for 2.) depends on fare.

Beware that even if there is a trip credit, it might be limited to another itinerary starting in Germany or limited to starting in Eurozone.

For example. I had a YUL-LGA flight priced in USD but couldn't apply to LGA-YUL. The new trip has to originate in Canada
