Any JAL Life Status Points strategies?
as you all know, JAL revamped their program and now you can no longer grind FlyOn points to get to JAL Global Club, but instead you have to accumulate 1500 "Life Status Points" to hit it. The good: They never expire, the bad: It takes substantially longer to reach anything
Here's a breakdown:
1. Domestic flights
- No matter the distance, 1 flight = 5 points.
To reach status, 300 domestic flights, or 150 round trips
2. International flights
- 1000 miles = 5 points
- Based on sector miles, so further distance = more points
- Flight with the most miles from Tokyo is NY with 6,739 miles one way = 6 * 5 = 30 points
25 flights from Tokyo to NY would get you there
3. Credit Card:
- 100 yen = 1 mile
- 2000 miles = 5 points
Getting to status with spend alone required 600,000 miles
Getting a fancy card may give you 1.5 miles per 100 yen
4. JAL Mall (JAL online shopping)
- 100 yen = 1 mile
- 100 miles = 1 point
A good bit better than credit card spend, but still ridiculous
Even when going crazy with card spend and buying lots of stuff at the JAL Mall (to potentially then sell again), reaching any kind of status that gives JGC is likely going to take years and require a huge amount of money. Not even partner flights give points from the looks of it, you have to actually fly JAL. Taking higher fares for flights doesn't matter either, the points are calculated on the base 100% mileage fare.
Anyone here thinking of going for it? What's your strategy?
