I got told weather for a late rotation and they folded the day before the CEDR deadline. But I got clear evidence from flight radar about the A380 that did our route and could show it was late departing LHR.

The above answer seems reasonably convincing to me and probably fair. It does answer my question about how you split responsibility when there are a mixture of factors.
