I've been in this situation before and was told sorry no meals left but can I get you an extra drink instead.... So I asked if I could have something from the Speedbird Cafe and they said no that's not possible, then came back with 2 of the mini crisp packets that were being handed out in ET.

Straight out of the ‘computer-says-no’ cribsheet.

OP may - or may not, as per FT-er JD1905 just above - receive some level of compensation regarded as appropriate (perhaps even generous) ……. but of course this requires effort on the part of an already-inconvenienced passenger - as opposed to BA taking the initiative to make amends pro-actively.

In short, it would be way better for the airline to spend 10GBP in loading a couple of ‘spare’ meals ; a paltry sum in relation to any potential additional revenue from last minute CE ticket sales.

Whenever episodes such as these arise (and must be said, they are far from rare), it tends to reinforce the theory that it’s the attention to small details which so often helps shape the perception of a business by its customers.

However many glitzy media events / gushing press releases / ‘showcase’ presentations / CEO-signed emails to BAEC members are organised at the behest of executive management, this lack of focus on quick & easy fixes such as these (along with many other examples) is an indicator of just how far the airline remains from its much-heralded ‘transformation’.
