When Polaris was first fielded, it was indeed one of the bust business seats out there. I haven’t tried BA yet, but DL’s D1 seat is wider than Polaris, has ample storage, and comfortable - along with better food and service.
If UA wants to remain competitive, they need to design a comparable seat. In the meantime, serving better food and adding back the FA position they took away would go a long way to making the Polaris experience better.
I didn't do an FA count on BA, but I did feel like there were a lot more FAs in circulation, which makes a difference. I also forgot to mention that there is also still a First Class on many of these flights. For my JFK-LHR trip, it would have added about $1000 in cost. It sounds pretty good, with the Concorde lounge and top-notch alcohol.
