Didn't want to shuffle this news in the other thread but Malaysia will expand the use of e-gates (autogates) from 10 countries to 46 countries beginning 1 June 2024.
Passport holders from the following countries will be eligible for e-gates starting next month:
- Australia*
- Bahrain
- Brunei*
- Canada
- China
- European Union (all 27 member states)
- Hong Kong
- Japan*
- Jordan
- Kuwait
- New Zealand*
- Oman
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia*
- Singapore*
- South Korea*
- Taiwan
- United Arab Emirates
- United Kingdom*
- United States*
Current e-gate eligible countries are denoted with an * plus Germany (lumped into EU).
Another post suggested that it's no longer necessary to
register to use of the e-gates, completion of the online arrival form now being sufficient (at least for those holding passports of the starred countries in the list above). If that is correct, it would put Malaysia in the same league as Indonesia.
But what about the fingerprints? Malaysia seems obsessed by collecting bio-data.
