I understand if you don't make the points to retain your status, you drop a level. E.g. not enough to retain Gold, you drop to Silver the next year, Bronze the year after, etc...

But say if you're a Gold member, but don't earn enough to retain Gold (1500TP). However, you *do* pass the usual Silver threshold (600TP)? Does this give any advantage - does it buy you an extra year of ilver? Or does it not matter - i.e. earn 0 or 601 or 1499TP (Gold needing 1500points) and next year you're in the same position regardless?

Basically just trying to see if there's any real advantage of earning TPs if you know you won't make enough to retain Gold.
