Had this happen on my ATL-JAX last Thursday evening in F when that weather rolled through ATL last week. Difference was, unlike a lot of the times I've heard this no service due to turbulence line, it was actually pretty bumpy and definitely the bumpiest departure I've had in awhile out of ATL. Also had quite the lightning show which was actually pretty cool at night. With that said though, had a great crew who was offering a lot of pre departure service to compensate (multiple drink rounds and snack basket passes) despite the 4 hour delay and it nearing midnight. They also had some help in that service with the flight being on a 757 so no having to fight upstream boarding crowds since it boards from the second door.

Also had this happen on a JAX-JFK CRJ9 Endeavor flight also in F back in late March, great FA in F and also did an extensive pre departure service like that. Fortunately though, the turbulence smoothened out the second half of the flight and she then proceeded with the full service again.

I've definitely been on the lucky side of this lately (now that I say that, I'm probably about to get rocked with the bad side), and haven't had an incident that was as bad as one I dealt with in summer 2021 that I still vividly remember more than any other "turbulence" excuses. Was an afternoon ATL-JAX flight in F, FA was claiming no service would be performed due to turbulence, no waters at seats at boarding, no PDBs (granted they hadn't been brought back yet), nothing. We get in the air, no turbulence whatsoever. I ring the call bell, the FA comes, and I just ask for a bottle of water because I'm parched, aka the absolute bare minimum and most simple request one can make, and he says "the captain said we can't do any service". I replied with, "so you got out of your seat to come tell me that but can't bring a water which would take the same amount of time out of your seat since all you have to do is grab one" to where he just walked off and never came back. I then filed a complaint right after we landed and immediately got 10k miles and an apology.
