It happened to my friend. He didn’t listen to me! He booked 2 nights at 54K pts each under one reservation. The second night dropped to 50K pts, but the first night was no longer available on points. So he was unable to take advantage of the 4000 pt decrease.
The only exception to this rule is if you’re booking 5 nights and taking advantage of 5th night free.
Note: I’ve never had to change rooms.
