Honestly I think the whole thing is complete nonsense and I wish they'd get rid of these direct flights with stops. They do nothing but trick people into think they're flying a non-stop.
Does anyone know how this works for AC33 for YYZ-(YVR)-SYD? I’m currently booked the whole length with an eupgrade request submitted. The YYZ-YVR leg is fully booked in J (according to ExpertFlyer) but YVR-SYD is showing seats available. I’m 50k and booked in PY so would be relatively high on the upgrade list.

If after not receiving an Upgrade for the YYZ-YVR leg, would I still be placed on the upgrade list at YVR for the trip to SYD, and then the regular upgrade priority would apply?

What about the return leg, with SYD-YVR showing seats available, but YVR-YYZ fully booked?
