BA is spend based unless they can’t figure how much you paid for your ticket (eg if you bought through travel agent). But you will get avios for additional spend on upgrades. On in app or web upgrades, you’ll also get the tier points for the upgraded class provided the underlying ticket was paid in cash and not a redemption.
